Engineering Technician

GMS is looking for an Underground Mine Engineering Technician to add to our team in Cote Blanche, Louisiana. This is a long term, to permanent job opportunity.  We are looking for candidates locally but will offer relocation assistance for non- local candidates.

Responsibilities

The Engineering Technician functions within a team of other professionals and reports directly to theEngineering Manager.

  • Responsible for conducting underground surveys including installation of survey controls, mark up of underground development and production lines.

  • Conducting surface surveying.

  • Design and provide survey layouts.

  • Updating Mine Maps and build as built layouts.

  • A good understanding of principles of mine ventilation and gases in mines.

  • Complete Mine Plan Map updates using AutoCAD/ Carlson software.

  • Filing and maintenance of engineering drawings and documents.

  • Schedule and draft using AutoCAD, required plans to maintain production.

  • Install ground control instrumentation in those areas identified in the mine roof and in mine rooms.

  • Plan with mine operations personnel for equipment requirements, and physical installation of the instrumentation station.

  • Conduct other surveying work such as:

  • In seam seismic survey

  • Subsidence survey

  • Traverse survey

  • Hydrographic survey

  • Assist engineering department personnel as required.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of underground Surveying Experience

  • At least 4 years of experience working in Underground Mine environment

  • Technical positions may require a minimum of 5 years.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • At least 1 year experience of Surface Mine experience

  • High school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.

  • Demonstrate excellent computer, communication and writing skills.

  • Demonstrate software proficiency with AutoCAD, Carlson software, GPS system.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in total station equipment/ Leica experience will be a plus.

  • Qualified Mine Engineering Technologist or Technician.

  • Ability to drive a standard transmission required.

Pay Rate:  $28-35.50 per hour (Based on Experience)

Travel:  25% of work time is travel based on Lab to Mine site
